Punta Rata Beach: A Complete Guide
Punta Rata is the beach on Croatia's postcards. Set on a protected cape in Brela, it combines smooth white pebbles, very clear water and a forest of Aleppo pines that grows right out of the rock. In 2004 Forbes included it among the most beautiful beaches in the world, and it still lives up to that.
The Beach at a Glance
The beach is made of smooth pebbles washed down from Mount Biokovo and polished by the sea. On its western side stands the Brela Stone, a small rock with pine trees growing from it, Brela's best-known landmark and the perfect photo backdrop. The area has been protected since 1964, and the dense pines behind the beach keep it noticeably cooler on hot days. The entry into the sea is gentle, which suits children and less confident swimmers.
Best Time to Visit
Arrive early in the morning for the calmest water, the best light for photos and space to spread out before the day visitors arrive. June and September offer warm sea with fewer people.

Facilities & Amenities
In season you can rent sun loungers and parasols, and there are showers, with cafés and restaurants nearby. Beach Bar Punta Rata and Restaurant Punta Rata are right by the beach for a drink or lunch.
Activities & Water Sports
Swimming and snorkelling in the clear water are the highlights. Water sports are available in summer, and the coastal promenade makes for a beautiful walk in either direction.

Exploring the Surroundings
Podrače, one of Croatia's most photographed coves, is right next to Punta Rata. Follow the pine-shaded promenade south and you reach Soline and the centre of Brela, with cafés, restaurants and more beaches along the way.
Practical Tips for Your Visit
The larger car park is above the beach, and from there you walk down (Punta Rata car park). Cyclists can ride to the start of the pedestrian zone. Water shoes are handy, and in July and August a morning visit is the best way to beat the crowds.
